LOS ANGELES - LMU freshman guard
Chance Stephens has been named WCC Freshman of the Week, the West Coast Conference announced on Monday.
Stephens was pivotal in LMU's Tournament Championship at the 2022 Jamaica Classic. The sharp-shooter was named tournament MVP after hitting 10 threes in two games to knock off Georgetown of the Big East and Wake Forest of the Big East. After Friday night's three threes, Stephens solidified his MVP Award with a career-high 23 point performance on 7-for-10 shooting from long range. Stephens helped LMU build up a halftime lead with a 5-for-5, 16-point first half against the Demon Deacons then hit clutch threes both at the end of regulation and the game-winner in overtime.
Stephens is the first Lion to win the weekly top freshman award since the WCC introduced it during the 2020-21 season.
