Lions Announce Men's Soccer Schedule

LOS ANGELES – The LMU Lions men's soccer team and head coach Kyle Schmid are returning to action this fall with the season stretching from the end of August until the middle of November.

"Our staff can't wait to get to work with the group this season. We lost a lot of veteran leadership from last season, but we return a strong core along with some new faces from freshman and transfers who will compete in every game at home or on the road," said Schmid.

The Lions went undefeated in the regular season in 2020 en route to a West Coast Conference title. They followed that up in 2021 by tying for third in the WCC, reaching a ranking as high as No. 9 in the United Soccer Coaches' Poll.

August begins with a pair of exhibition matches for the Lions. They travel to La Jolla, Calif. to take on UC San Diego on Aug. 13 before returning home to take on Cal State Bakersfield on Aug. 19.

The home and season opener is a week later against Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville, taking place Aug. 25 at 7:00 p.m. (PT) at Sullivan Field.

The Lions will head south to take on San Diego State on Aug. 28, the first of four matchups against teams that received votes in the Coaches' poll last season.

A pair of home games against UNLV and UC Santa Barbara will follow on Sept. 1 and Sept. 4, respectively. Back-to-back road matches at Sacramento State and UC Davis follow before taking on Cal State Fullerton on Sept. 15 and UC Riverside on Sept. 18 at Sullivan Field.

"We have a strong schedule this season with some challenging games on the road and at home that will test our group from the start. Competing against teams from the Big West, Pac 12, MVC, and WAC will challenge us every game. We will need to play well in our non-conference matches, so we are prepared to compete for another WCC title and NCAA tournament berth," Schmid said regarding the tough slate.

West Coast Conference play begins on Oct. 1 against San Francisco. The Lions upended the Dons 1-0 last season in the penultimate match of the season in San Francisco.

A week later the Lions will host 2021 WCC runners-up Pacific on Oct. 8.

The Lions host an Oct. 14 matchup with UCLA that wraps up the nonconference slate. The Bruins finished the 2021 season ranked No. 25.

After a road trip to Portland, LMU returns home to host San Diego on Oct. 26.

They then travel north to face the 2021 WCC Champion Santa Clara Broncos on Oct. 29 in a midweek matchup. The Broncos ranked No. 20 in the final poll of 2021.

After an away match at Saint Mary's, the Lions close the season out with a home matchup against Gonzaga.
