LOS ANGELES – LMU men's basketball has signed Rick Issanza for the 2022-23 season. The 7-1 big man joins the Lions after playing two seasons in Norman for the University of Oklahoma.
"We are extremely excited to announce the signing of Rick Issanza," said Head Coach
Stan Johnson. "Rick was a huge priority for us in the transfer portal. When taking this job, Rick was the type of person and player we envisioned here at LMU. With his size and athleticism, Rick has a chance to do some incredible things in his time at LMU. Rick also embodies everything this program is about from a character standpoint. We couldn't be more excited to get the big fella here."
Issanza played in 17 games over two seasons for the Sooners after being named a top-40 center out of high school in 2019.
A native of Kinshasa, Congo, Issanza played his high school ball at Bella Vista Prep in Scottsdale, Ariz. As a high school senior, averaged 11.0 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.8 blocks while shooting 64 percent from the field.
"I chose LMU because I thrive on close relationships and a well-rounded education," said Issanza. "Coach Stan's vision for this team future is tremendous and I personally want to be part of it. During my first visit they made me feel welcomed so I had a great time with players. In addition, I can see the opportunity for me both on and off the court. Finally, I'm really thankful for the opportunity and I can't wait to get it started."
Issanza is the fourth player to sign with the Lions this offseason, joining fellow
transfers Noah Taitz and
Michael Graham and
incoming freshman Chance Stephens.
