Lions Open Brief Homestand Against Portland

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Loyola Marymount University Lions (7-16-1, 4-2 WCC), tied for third in the West Coast Conference standings, welcome Portland to Page Stadium for a three-game set this weekend.

LMU has taken three of the last five series against Portland and will be the home team in the series for the first time since 2018.

First pitches are set for 6:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. All three games will be broadcast on the WCC Network and links are available on the baseball schedule page at www.lmulions.com.

The Lions swept Saint Mary's to open WCC play and picked up a win last Sunday at Santa Clara to split their first two conference series.

LMU got tremendous pitching performances from Diego Barrera and Quinn Lavelle last weekend against Santa Clara. Both starters had season-highs in innings pitched while Barrera had a season-high five strikeouts against the Broncos.

In addition to getting stellar pitching performances the Lions have gotten a ton of production from Jared Thomas. Last week he was a one man wrecking crew. He batted 8-for-20 (.400) across a midweek contest against UCLA and the conference set against Santa Clara.

Thomas had a string of hitting a home run in three straight games to go along with a double, six RBI, and three runs scored across the four game week. He went 2-for-5 last Friday night against the Broncos, with a homer and double. The past week Thomas had a slugging percentage of .900, on base percentage of .400, and had hit safely in eight straight games prior to Tuesday night's game at UC Riverside.

Alongside Thomas has been the reliable bat of Diego Baqueiro. The team leader in home runs with six paces the WCC in RBIs with 28 and RBIs per game at 1.17. He has six multi-hit games to go along with nine multi-RBI contests.

The Lions brief three game homestand is followed by a season-long 10 game road swing with stops in Westwood, Stockton, Irvine, San Diego, and Las Vegas. LMU returns home on April 22 with a conference series versus San Francisco.
