SAN BRUNO, CA – The West Coast Conference has named Loyola Marymount University Lions midfielder
Narciso Cervantes and goalkeeper
Jacob Jackson Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for September 27, 2021.
Cervantes scored the game-winning goal with less than 10 minutes to play en route to the Lions 1-0 victory over California on Friday afternoon. The team-leader in goals scored with four pushed LMU's win streak to eight and preserved the nation's longest unbeaten streak. For the week, Cervantes had one goal and two points in 155 minutes on the pitch in victories over Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Cal.
Jackson, recognized for the second-straight week by the WCC, posted clean sheets against the Mustangs and Golden Bears in 180 minutes in net for the Lions. For the week, he saw 16 shots while making five saves including one in the last two minutes of regulation against Cal that preserved LMU's 1-0 win.
The recognition by the conference is Cervantes' first of the year and fifth for the Lions this season as
Creggton Charlton and
Christian Wood were honored earlier in the campaign.
The Lions open defense of their WCC Championship this weekend when they travel to Stockton, California on Saturday, October 2nd to play Pacific with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
