LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University Lions (9-17, 2-7 WCC) return home this weekend and take on West Coast Conference foe San Diego for a three-game series at Page Stadium.
The Lions will be looking for their second straight series win against San Diego after taking two-of-three from them in 2019.
Heading into the weekend, the Lions have won three of the last four series against the Toreros and seven of the last ten games when the two teams take the field.
Josh Agnew will get the starting nod on Friday night and he'll take the mound as LMU's 2021 leader in wins, saves, and games finished. A member of the All-WCC Preseason Pitchers Team, Agnew has been effective whenever he has the ball in his hands. In six appearances he's struck out ten in 13 2/3 innings pitched and had a string of three straight games where he only allowed one hit.
Holden Christian continues to have a stellar 2021 for LMU. He leads the Lions in ERA at 0.00 and is holding opposing batters to a .106 average. Christian is fourth on the team in innings pitched at 20 2/3 while leading LMU in batters struck out at 30. In his 11 appearances, all in relief, he's only surrendered seven hits which is second best on the team.
Kenny Oyama continues his blistering 2021 for the Lions. He's averaging a team-leading .350 at the plate while also pacing LMU in on base percentage, runs scored, stolen bases, and hits. His 35 hits are third in the WCC while his nine stolen bases are second best in the conference.
The Lions and Toreros will begin their series on Friday, April 9th
when Agnew goes opposite San Diego's Conner Thurman. First pitch at Page is slated for 6:00 p.m.
