LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University Lions (7-9, 0-2 WCC) fell behind early and couldn't produce enough offense to come back, dropping the second contest of the three-game series 9-2 against BYU.
 
The Lions didn't have any issues with the Cougars in the first two innings but ran into trouble in the visiting half of the third. LMU surrendered five runs to the Cougars in the frame and the Lions bats couldn't fight their way back.
 
Starting in his fifth game of the season Jimmy Galicia gave the Lions 3 1/3 innings but couldn't find his command and picked up the loss for the Lions.
 
Trailing by five the Lions rallied for a pair of runs in the home half of the fourth. BYU had back-to-back errors putting two Lions on base and Tommy Delgado's single to right field scored the first LMU run. Matthew Piotrowski, making his first start of the year, grounded out to second for the Lions second run of the game.
 
LMU put base runners on in the fifth and sixth but couldn't find the timely hit to add to their run total.
 
The Lions and Cougars conclude their series tomorrow with LMU looking to pick up their first win in West Coast Conference play. First pitch between LMU and BYU is set for 1:00 p.m.
