LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University Lions (7-10, 0-3 WCC) scored early but fell behind midway through and couldn't get their bats going, dropping their West Coast Conference series finale to the BYU Cougars 4-1.
LMU got on the board first in the home half of the third with
Alec Cargin providing the RBI single to left center scoring
Alex Lambeau. Lambeau started the inning with a walk and advanced around the bases on a pair of groundouts eventually scoring on the Cargin hit.
Matt McClure picked up the Saturday afternoon start and he was solid on the bump for the Lions. The righty threw five innings of three hit baseball to go along with three strikeouts against 20 BYU batters.
The Lions and Cougars were tied heading into the sixth but a two run frame for BYU followed by a run in the eighth proved to be the difference in the contest.
LMU had opportunities to even up the score with base runners on in the sixth and eighth but couldn't get the timely hit to get any closer to the Cougars.
The Lions will look to rebound from the series with a pair of midweek games before heading back into WCC play.
