LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University women's basketball team will use its game against Saint Mary's College on Thursday to promote breast cancer awareness and to honor those who have been impacted by breast cancer.
The team's annual Pink game will also be used to promote awareness for pancreatic cancer, in honor of Lion alums Andee and
Bianca Velasco, who lost their mom during their time at LMU.
"On our game on February 18, we will honor and celebrate the lives of so many who have battled both breast cancer and pancreatic cancer," said head coach
Charity Elliott. "Our program, like so many others, has been impacted by both of these devastating diseases and so we stand in support of those fighting this battle and pray for the cure to come quickly so we can eradicate cancer forever. "
The Lions will be wearing pink and will have purple ribbons to highlight their support for breast and pancreatic cancer awareness. The game will take place on Thursday starting at 6:00 PM in Gersten Pavilion, which will be the Lions' second to last home game of their 2020-21 season.
"Many of our players have had family members fight breast cancer and two of our alums, Andee and
Bianca Velasco, lost their mother to pancreatic cancer," said Elliott. "So, we will continue to do our part to raise awareness and support those in the middle of the fight."
The Lions continue their fight in promoting on-going change and awareness.
