HONOLULU, Hawaii - The LMU Women's Basketball team (2-4, 0-0) has made the trek across the Pacific for a pair of games on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. The Lions will not have much time for rest and relaxation on the shores of Waikiki, as they seek to return to Los Angeles with an even .500 record.
The road trip will start with a late afternoon game on Sunday at The University of Hawaii (2-5, 0-0). The game will be a rematch from the 2019-2020 season, when the Lions came away with a 65-51 victory in Gersten Pavilion. LMU will have six players on the current roster who faced Hawaii in the 2019 victory (Aspyn Adams, Khari Clark, Chelsey Gipson, Haley Herdman, Jasmine Jones, and Meghan Mandel).
Both squads will be hungry for a victory after slow starts to the season. For the Rainbow Wahine, they will look to bounce back from a two game losing streak after falling to Utah and Gonzaga in the Rainbow Wahine showdown.
For the Lions, they will look to avoid dropping back-to-back games and continue to rely on a combination of veteran leadership from Jones and Ariel Johnson, as well as new energy from Kimora Sykes and Alexis Mark. Sykes, comes off of her third double-figure scoring performance of the season and second straight game with three buckets from downtown.
The Rainbow Wahine and Lions matchup equally in nearly every major statistical category, a sign that this may be another close game for the Lions, who have had five of their six games this season decided by eight points or fewer.
Tip-off will be at 5:00 PM Hawaii Time (7:00 PM Pacific). The game can be streamed on ESPN+ (valid ESPN+ subscription required) and live stats can be found at the link here.
The Lions will get one day to recover before heading just down the road to face the Sharks of Hawaii Pacific (4-2, 1-1) on Tuesday afternoon. This game will count towards the Lions record, but will serve as an exhibition for the Division II, Sharks.
The Sharks are coming off of a 54-69 loss to Pac-West Conference opponent, Point Loma University on Saturday. This will be the second Division I matchup for the Sharks this season, the first being a 76-86 loss to island foe, Hawaii.
It will be the first ever matchup between the two programs and a great non-conference opportunity for both sides. The Lions will have a chance to get their first winning streak of the season with a victory on Tuesday.
Tip-off will be at 4:30 PM Hawaii time (6:30 PM Pacific). The game can be streamed on Stretch for a one-time fee of $7.95 and live stats can be found at the link here.
