LOS ANGELES – LMU shot 54.4 percent from the field and led by as many as 29 points in Wednesday's win over Little Rock. The Lions used a 7-0 run out of the gates and never looked back, earning the 82-63 home win.
Following his career-high from Saturday,
Joe Quintana took the opening tip coast-to-coast for a layup four seconds into the game. Quintana's impact was seen more from the outside as the sharp-shooter went 7-for-11 from three and finished with 25 points to lead all scorers.
The Lions used a 6-0 run to take a double-digit lead for the first time as
Eli Scott,
Alex Merkviladze, and
Kwane Marble II hit three straight layups with just over 11 minutes on the clock.
Quintana hit threes in consecutive trips down the court to build up LMU's lead to 14 points, the largest of the first half. LMU went into the locker room ahead, 42-33, at halftime.
The lead grew to 16 as Quintana had the first five points out the gate and Marble added a layup.
LMU just three minutes to take the lead from 53-40 to 64-40, as
Dameane Douglas made his season debut and finished a layup to make it an 11-0 run. Douglas finished with six points on four shots and four rebounds in his return to the court after nearly a full year away from game action.
Both
Cam Shelton and
Eli Scott added 11 points apiece for the Lions.
Gary Harris Jr. scored all eight of his points in the second half of 4-for-5 shooting and
Alex Merkviladze had his best game in an LMU uniform with seven points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting night.
Both teams will head to Florida for their next two games to compete in the Jacksonville Classic by Fabletics.
LMU will play Florida State on Sunday night to open their trip, with the game airing on CBS Sports Network.
