MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List Release
 
LOS ANGELES – Senior defender Gerardo Lopez became the second Loyola Marymount University Lions men's soccer player to be included on the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Watch List when it was announced today. Lopez joins former Lions Rafael Baca, Roger Downes, and Craig Nitti as the fourth player from LMU to be on the list. He is one of 33 players from across the nation to be included on the 2020-21 list.
 
The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year. This year's award was pushed back to accommodate the seasons affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Winners will be announced May 27 at the 2021 MAC Hermann Trophy Press Conference and Banquet taking place at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Mo.
 
Lopez, from Moreno Valley, Calif., was tabbed a United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's All-West Region First Team member in 2019. Last season for the Lions, he appeared and started in 19 games, led the team in minutes with 1,728 and posted one goal and assist.
 
The MAC Hermann Trophy Watch Lists are compiled by members of the United Soccer Coaches Men's and Women's NCAA Division I All-America Committees. Fifteen semifinalists will be named for both the men's and women's MAC Hermann Trophy at the end of April based on voting by Division I coaches and from those candidates, three finalists will be determined for the coveted award.
