Men's Water Polo Announces 2020 Incoming Class

Head Coach John Loughran and LMU men's water polo announce eight new members for the 2020 season. The Lions finished the season ranked 16th in the nation following the fall 2019 season and return two first team All-WWPA selections in David Carrasco and Western Water Polo Association Player of the Year Blazo Mitrovic.
 
This year's class includes Tyler Harvey, Tommy Lien, Alex Marlow, Brendan McMahon, Aden Mina, Augie Renezeder, Rafael Salonikios, and Max Walsworth.

Tyler Harvey | 6'0 | Corona del Mar High School | Newport Coast, CA

As a two-time All-CIF Southern Section Second Team selection, First Team All-Sunset League member, and Corona del Mar Offensive MVP as a junior and senior, CDM's captain Tyler Harvey is ready to join the Lions to continue his decorated career. As a high school senior, Harvey's stats included 47 goals, 70 assists, 25 ejections drawn, 68 steals, and 30 field blocks. He will be entering LMU intending to major in business undeclared.

Tommy Lien | 6'2 | Servite High School | Irvine, CA
 
Tommy Lien will join his brother Jon on LMU's roster this season following three varsity seasons at Servite, and previously a member of SOCAL Water Polo Club's 2017 Junior Olympics Gold Medal 16u Team. Lien improved his statistics as a senior, scoring 44 goals, recording 33 assists, and adding 37 steals and 34 blocks, all career-bests. A member of Servite's CIF championship team in 2018 and Servite's CIF Semi-Finalists team in 2017, Lien was named Servite's Most Improved in 2018 and received the Coaches Award in 2019. Academically, Lien was a member of the California Scholastic Federation all four years of high school and named the 2019 Servite Scholar Athlete, and intends to major in humanities at LMU.

Alex Marlow | 6'3 | International Community School | Kirkland, WA
 
Alex Marlow was selected for 2018 Futures International trip to Budapest, Hungary, and was chosen twice for Youth National Team Selection Camps. Marlow competed in four events at 2020 WIAA Swim State Championships, competed for Northwest Water Polo in 2018, 2019, and 2020, and swam two years for Lake Washington High School. At LMU, Marlow will work towards his mechanical engineering degree.

Brendan McMahon | 6'4 | San Diego Mesa College | Point Loma High School | San Diego, CA
 
After playing two seasons at San Diego Mesa College, Brendan McMahon will be wearing LMU colors this fall. While at junior college, McMahon scored 99 goals, recorded 62 assists, and tallied 77 steals in just 50 games played over his two seasons, leading to MVP honors in 2018, All-PCAC First Team recognition in 2018 and 2019, and being named to the CCWPCA- All Southern California Water Polo Team in 2019. Prior to enrolling at San Diego Mesa, McMahon scored 235 goals with 108 assists and 223 steals in four years of high school water polo. The three-time team captain and first team all-conference selection was named MVP in 2015 as he helped guide Point Loma to the school's first CIF Title. In high school, McMahon received nine varsity letters, after competing for the swim and wrestling teams in addition to water polo. McMahon will work towards his degree in business management at LMU.

Aden Mina | 6'1 | Corona del Mar High School | Newport Beach, CA
 
Aden Mina will join LMU in the fall after a senior season at Corona del Mar that included 27 goals, 45 assists, 17 ejections drawn, 24 steals, and 14 shot blocks. Mina will be joining the Lions alongside longtime teammate Tyler Harvey as both have been playing together since before high school. Mina intends to major in biology at LMU.

Augie Renezeder | 6'1 | Laguna Beach High School | Laguna Beach, CA
 
The John Wooden Award 2019 Recipient presented by Laguna Beach Boys Water Polo Coach Ethan Damato, Augie Renezeder is ready to take his game to the collegiate level at LMU. As a senior at Laguna Beach, Renezeder finished the year third on his team in scoring and first on the team in ejections drawn. Renezeder has also played for USAWP Jr. Olympics since 2010 and is a member of California Scholarship Federation (CSF) and National Honors Society (NHS). While at LMU, Renezeder intends to major in business.

Rafael Joseph Salonikios | 5'8 | Colegio Bandeirantes | Sau Paulo, Brazil
 
Continuing the tradition of bringing in successful international players, Coach Loughran has signed Rafael Joseph Salonikios out of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Salonikios is a member of the Brazilian National Team and was selected to the Brazilian Championship All-Star Team. Salonikios intends to major in business administration at LMU.

Max Walsworth | 6'4 | Bellarmine College Preparatory | Los Gatos, CA
 
Former First Team All-CIF-CSS Max Walsworth is headed to LMU to continue playing water polo. Walsworth already has a decorated career with accomplishments that include representing CCS in the CCS vs. NCS Senior All-Star Game in 2019, placing as runner up in the 2019 CCS Open Division Championship, taking home 10th Place in the Platinum Division of the 2019 US Junior Olympics, competing on the 2019 USAWP Pacific Red Zone Team, receiving the Nick Johnson Inspiration Award at the USAWP National Championships in 2019, earning the Bronze Medal at the 2019 USAWP National Championships, being named a 2019 USAWP Academic All-American, and taking home a co-championship in the 2018 CCS Open Division Championship. Walsworth plans to major in business with an emphasis in finance at LMU.
