LMU Softball Honors Moreno

LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University softball team would like to honor senior Desiree Moreno today, on what would have been the last weekend series of the regular season for the Lions.

A transfer from Delaware State, Moreno served as a catcher and a utility player for the Lions for the last two seasons. Her senior season, Moreno posted a .355 batting average and started in all 23 games for the Lions. Moreno tallied up 12 RBIs and two home runs, while collecting eight runs.

The Torrance Calif., native led the Lions to two upsets her senior year, including a 1-0 victory over No. 4 LSU, and a 2-1 win over No. 13 Michigan. Both games Moreno had a fielding percentage of 100.

"It has been an honor to join the journey of Desiree's growth while she has been in the LMU uniform," said head coach Strinz-Ward. "I honestly wish we would have had her all four years. She is a young lady who possesses so much strength and it has been amazing to watch as her confidence has grown. She committed to playing freely this year and she stepped up big time by anchoring down first base and the middle of our batting order. More than anything, she has a pure heart and she genuinely cares about people. I can't wait to see what she will do with another year that the NCAA has granted!"

Moreno helped the Lions to 13 wins before their season was ended.
