The Loyola Marymount University Lions baseball team (5-8) will venture back up north for their third straight road weekend series, this time against the San Jose State Spartans. The matchup with the Spartans will be the first since 2016 when the Lions took two out of three against SJSU.
Â
LMU is coming off a tough one-run defeat against UC Riverside but will be looking for their second straight series win after beating UC Davis two out of three last weekend.Â
Pacing the Lions in the early goings has been
Cooper Uhl. The senior is leading the Lions in numerous offensive categories and has been a tough out whenever he steps into the batter's box. Uhl leads the Lions in average (.354), on base percentage (.484), hits (17), RBIs (8) and is second in total bases with nineteen.
Â
The Lions
Trevin Esquerra has also been a steady stream of offense with a bat in his hands. He paces LMU in homeruns with two, runs scored at 13 and slugging percentage at .500. Esquerra will look to build upon those numbers when he steps up to the plate at Excite this weekend.Â
Â
With Uhl and Esquerra moving runners around with their performance at the plate
Alex Lambeau has been manufacturing offense all on his own. Lambeau currently leads the West Coast Conference in stolen bases with eight in the early part of 2020. His eight stolen bags place him 12th
in the nation as well. Â
Â
The Lions and Spartans open the three-game set tomorrow evening at Excite Ballpark. First pitch between the two schools is slated for 6:00 p.m. with the second game set for Saturday at 2:00 p.m. followed by the series finale on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
