The Loyola Marymount University Lions baseball team (3-6, 0-0 WCC) head up north for a three-game weekend series against Big West foe UC Davis. The trip to Dobbins Stadium in Davis will be the first for the Lions baseball program. The Lions and Aggies have played each other three times in their history with all games played at Page Stadium and UCD having won two of the three games back in 2007.
Â
The Lions look to get back to their winning ways over the weekend and leading the charge is senior
Cooper Uhl. His .414 batting average paces the Lions and is the eighth highest in the West Coast Conference. Additionally, Uhl leads LMU in both hits and RBIs with 12 and seven and his hit total is seventh best in the conference.
Â
Another bright spot for LMU is freshman
Merrick Baldo. Baldo was in command on Tuesday night against UC Santa Barbara in relief for head coach
Nathan Choate's Lions. He put together four innings of one hit baseball while striking out two against 13 Gaucho batters. His command on the mound was evident and will be looked upon throughout the season.Â
Â
Trevin Esquerra continues his solid play for the Lions. Entering the weekend, he paces the Lions in runs scored with nine, total bases with 15, walks at seven and slugging percentage at .536. Esquerra's run total places him third in the conference and he'll be looking to add to those numbers against the Aggies.
Â
The Lions open up the three game set tomorrow afternoon with first pitch set for 2:00 p.m. The rest of the weekend will see the Lions and Aggies compete against each other at 1:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.Â
