LOS ANGELES – Following Monday's matchup between LMU and UC Santa Barbara, the two teams will play again on Saturday for the Los Angeles leg of the home-and-home series. The Gauchos (3-0) earned the win to start the week but LMU (2-3) is primed to even their record and looking to stay unbeaten at Gersten Pavilion this season.
The two teams hadn't played in 10 years, last meeting in 2010, prior to Monday's battle in the Thunderdome, which Santa Barbara won by 11.
Eli Scott scored 31-points on Monday, becoming the first 30+-point scorer for the program since he set his career-high the first-time last season with 31 points against then 20
th-ranked Colorado in Boulder. Scott's 31-point scoring outputs game nearly exactly a year apart from each other, as his first was recorded on Dec. 4, 2019 and his second came on Dec. 7, 2020.
Scott also paired with
Keli Leaupepe to become the first set of LMU teammates with double-doubles in a game since two seasons ago in the PCH Cup on Jan. 19, 2019. Current senior
Mattias Markusson scored 11 points and 12 rebounds against Pepperdine, while
James Batemon, who is currently playing professionally for J.A Vichy-Clermont Métropole in France, totalled 10 points and 10 assists.
Leaupepe's 14 point and 11 rebound outing was his second career double-double, following his WCC Tournament performance to best San Diego in the opening round last March.
Combined, Leaupepe and Scott outrebounded the entire UCSB team, 33-to-27, and 13-to-6 on the offensive glass. LMU as a team grabbed 46 rebounds on Monday.
Saturday's game will air on the WCC Network and tip at 2 p.m. Live Stats will be run through Statbroadcast. Live audio can be heard on KXLU 88.9 FM.
