The Loyola Marymount University women's basketball team will add two more players to its 2021-22 roster, as incoming freshmen Ava Toone and Zoe Jenkins have signed their National Letter of Intent, announced by head coach
Charity Elliott on Wednesday.
A member of the U16 Japan National Team, Toone is the youngest player to be invited to the association to participate in the Women's National Team Camp for the scheduled Tokyo Olympics.
A Brooklyn, NY native, Toone was a member of the IMG Academy, where she was named All-Tournament in 2018 at the US Amateur Basketball Tournament and ALL-Star at the Hoops in the Heartland Tournament. The forward led Packer Collegiate Institute to NYAAIS-NYC to a Season Championship and was named All-Tournament Team.
"I chose LMU because of the culture established by the coaching staff and the team's chemistry and camaraderie," said Toone. "The educational opportunities are endless and I am looking forward to being in Los Angeles!"
"Finally we can officially welcome Ava to the LMU community," said head coach
Charity Elliott. "Ava comes from IMG Academy and has international competition experience and will bring a tremendous mindset to our team. She's a stretch four who can extend the defense with her shooting prowess and has the size to bang on the inside. Like Zoe, she's a competitor and we can't wait to get both of them here. They are both going to be fantastic additions to our program."
Coming all the way from Melbourne, Australia, Jenkins was a member of the Victorian State Team in 2017, 2019 and in 2020, while leading the team to runners up at the Victorian Championship in 2019.
Jenkins led her team to a National Championship in 2017, and was a Knox Basketball junior representative 1's team from 2012-19. The guard was the vice-captain on her SSV State Team in 2019, and was the Knox Raiders team captain from 2017-19.
"I chose LMU because I loved the fact that the team is so close and has a family atmosphere," said Jenkins. "I think there is an opportunity to play and develop as a player and person at LMU under the great coaching staff. I also love the location and awesome campus."
