Sara Kovac has signed a pro contract to play volleyball in Slovenia, announced by head coach
Aaron Mansfield.
"I knew Sara had the goal of playing professional volleyball since the first time I sat down and talked with her after getting the job at LMU," said Mansfield. "Sara is an independent, self-sufficient and hard-working person, which are all important characteristics for a player to maximize their experience in Europe. Sara has worked tirelessly to improve the mental and physical aspects of her game while at LMU and it paid off big time. I'm really proud of Sara and am excited to follow her journey."
Kovac will head to Nova Gorica, Slovenia to start her professional career after representing Canada in the Pan American Games, which will be held in August in Peru.
The Niagara Falls native led the Lions in kills her senior season with a total of 448, while also leading LMU to the second round of the NCAA Tournament after taking down Duke in a 3-0 sweep.
Kovac ranked second in the West Coast Conference for kills per set, as she tallied an average 3.94, earning a spot on the 2018 WCC- Volleyball First Team.
Kovac will be one of the younger players joining the GEN-I Volley Nova Gorcia team, which will compete for the CEV Cup European championship.
