The LMU Athletics Spirit Squad will be holding tryouts for their cheer and dance team, as well as mascot position, the first week of school. On Wednesday, August 28, we will hold cheer and mascot tryouts in Gersten Pavilion from 6PM – 10PM. The Dance team tryouts will be from 6PM – 10 PM on Thursday, August 29 in Gersten Pavilion. Head Coach Martin is seeking friendly, coachable and dedicated athletes to represent the university as ambassadors of the Spirit program. The tryout fee is $25 and non-refundable. 

If you are trying out for the cheer team, it is recommended you have your back handspring and progressing to a back tuck. Flyers are expected to execute all single leg stunts. Bases and Backspots must be able to base and backspot these skills. If you are coach able and interested in promoting school spirit and enhancing your skills then we'd like to see you at tryouts.

As for the dance team tryouts, you will be given two routines via email 24 hours in advance of tryouts and are expected to perform those routines. You will also be required to perform an across the floor combination and demonstrate any advanced tricks and skills.

During the school year, the cheer and dance team will hold morning practices three times per week as well as weights twice a week and chorography (dance) and tumbling (cheer) on Sunday afternoons. Iggy will be asked to attend certain practices as well to be incorporated into routines.

Members of the LMU Spirit Squad are expected to attend all home men's and women's basketball games, select volleyball and baseball games, and various community and university events. A select group from each team will travel to the WCC Tournament in Las Vegas this March.
