ABCA All-Region Teams

Senior pitcher Codie Paiva and junior infielder/outfielder Trevin Esquerra were named to the 2019 ABCA/Rawlings Division I West All-Region Second Team it was announced today. 
 
The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America Committee, which is chaired by Tommy Raffo of Arkansas State University. 
 
Paiva adds to his list of accolades for the 2019 season having been named WCC Pitcher of the Year, All-WCC First Team, Most Outstanding Player of the WCC Tournament and member of the Los Angeles All-Regional Team. Paiva leaves LMU with the second lowest ERA in team history at 2.65, trailing Bill Barnett's ERA of 2.63. His 2019 ERA of 1.91 is the fourth lowest single-season ERA of all-time in Lions history. He capped a senior season leading the team in wins, ERA, innings pitched, batters struck out and games started.
 
Esquerra's banner year saw him lead the team in batting average, slugging percentage, hits, RBI, doubles, total bases and homeruns. He amassed a team-high 24 multi-hit games to go along with 19 multi-RBI contests. The San Diego native was also recognized in 2019 as a member of the All-WCC Second Team and WCC All-Tournament Team.
 
The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 11,000 members represent all 50 states and 23 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include eight divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School and Youth. The 76th annual ABCA Convention will be held Jan. 2-5, 2020 in Nashville, Tennessee.
