The Loyola Marymount Lions (29-23, 15-12 WCC) got a gutsy performance from starting pitcher
Nick Frasso but couldn't overcome a pair of two-run innings and lost their season series against Gonzaga 4-1.
Â
The Lions entered the game sitting in fourth place in the West Coast Conference standings and would've sealed a spot into the postseason with a victory but couldn't come up with enough offense and dropped the series to the Bulldogs.
Â
Frasso got the series finale start and gave head coach
Jason Gill 5.0 innings worth of work, conceding four hits, two runs and two walks while striking out seven against 21 Bulldog batters.
Â
LMU had an opportunity to score in the home half of the second when
Dylan Hirsch doubled to right center but
Alex Lambeau was thrown out a home preventing the Lions from getting on the board.Â
Â
The Lions offense struggled on the day but broke through off the bat of
Trevin Esquerra when he hit his team-leading 15
thhome run of the season in the bottom six over the left field wall.
Â
Trailing by one in the top of the seventh the Lions surrendered a pair of runs to the Bulldogs pushing their lead to 4-1. LMU couldn't put together any rallies in the eighth or ninth innings and ultimately dropped their home finale to Gonzaga.
