The Loyola Marymount Lions (28-21, 14-10 WCC) kick off their final homestand of the regular season this weekend when they host West Coast Conference opponent Gonzaga in a pivotal series.
 
The Lions currently sit in fourth place in the WCC standings, with three games left, and are looking to make their third straight trip to Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton for the WCC Championships next week.
 
LMU is one of a handful of WCC teams vying for those coveted top four spots in the postseason tournament with Saint Mary's, USF, Pepperdine and USD all within range. Both BYU and Gonzaga have punched their tickets to the postseason tournament and the Lions have their opportunity to get in with a good showing this weekend. 
 
Heading into the series, LMU will look to take full advantage of their opportunities when getting on base. The Lions currently lead the conference in steals with 64 in addition to junior Nick Sogard setting the pace in the WCC with 24 stolen bases of his own. Sogard has also been in command at the plate sitting at second on the team in average at .314 just 11 points shy of team-leader Brandon Shearer's .325 average.
 
Shearer has been on a tear recently for the Lions. In his last 10-games he's batting .308 to go along with 12 hits, six RBI, four runs, two home runs and a slugging percentage of .487.
 
Another Lion looking to cap a banner regular season heading into the final weekend at Page is junior Trevin Esquerra. He's been a constant threat at the plate for LMU leading the team in slugging percentage, hits, RBI, doubles, home runs and total bases. His stellar play for the Lions also places him among the conference leaders in almost every offensive category.
 
In addition to all the action taking place on the diamond, the Lions will also celebrate its seniors on Sunday afternoon with a variety of events taking place beforehand. The weekend series kicks off at Page on Friday, May 17^thwith first pitch slated for 6:00 p.m.
