The Loyola Marymount Lions (25-18, 13-8 WCC) got tremendous pitching from the duo of
Matt Voelker and
Nick Frasso to take the series finale 5-1 over Pepperdine on Sunday afternoon.

Entering Sunday afternoon's contest, the Lions had yet to score on Waves pitching but juniors
Cooper Uhl and
Nick Sogard weren't going to let that continue as they accounted for four of LMU's five runs on the day.

Sophomore
Matt Voelker got the starting assignment on Sunday and responded with one of his best starts on the year. He gave the Lions 5.2 innings of six hit baseball, walking one of 22 batters faced on 66 total pitches.

The Lions broke a scoreless tie in the top half of the fifth when the trio of
Tommy Delgado,
Steven Chavez and
Dylan Hirsch loaded the bases courtesy of a walk and two singles. With the bases full Uhl hit a shot to Brandt Belk at first who then threw it to Quincy McAfee at short for the out at second but McAfee's throw sailed past Belk allowing two Lions to score.

LMU picked up two more runs in the visiting half of the seventh when both Delgado and Chavez started off the inning with singles. With two men on Hirsch laid down the sacrifice bunt advancing both runners setting the table for Uhl once again. Uhl came through with a sac fly to right plating Delgado followed by Sogard's single to right bringing in Chavez for the second run of the inning.Â

The Lions picked up their fifth and final run of the afternoon off Delgado's bat.
Trevin Esquerra singled to left field and eventually was brought home when Delgado singled up the middle driving in the hard running Esquerra from second.Â

Frasso came on in relief of Voelker in bottom of the sixth and responded with 3.1 of five hit baseball. He surrendered one run while striking out three and walking one against 16 Pepperdine batters.

The Lions now focus on a Tuesday night matchup against Long Beach State. The Lions dropped their earlier meeting with the Dirtbags and now head to Bohl Diamond at Blair Field on April 30
