The Loyola Marymount Lions (6-6) continue their season long seven-game road trip when they travel to Lafayette and take on the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin Cajuns (5-7) for their final weekend non-conference series.
Â
LMU's bats came alive on Tuesday night to the tune of a season-high 14 runs against Southern California and they're looking to continue the scoring output against the Ragin Cajuns.
Â
Junior
Trevin Esquerra and sophomore
Kenny Oyama provided the Lions with a scoring pop equating for nine of LMU's 14 runs against the Trojans. This type of output is what head coach
Jason Gill is looking for from his entire Lions lineup.
Â
Starting off the weekend for the Lions is
Codie Paiva, who's strong showing in Oregon didn't produce a victory but did keep the Duck batters guessing throughout his time on the mound. In his 5.0 innings pitched, Paiva allowed only four hits and one earned run along with two strike outs.
Â
The Ragin Cajuns enter the series on a four-game winning streak, with a pair of victories against Maryland, then wins against Nicholls State and McNeese State. The Lions are looking to put an end to Louisiana's win streak and continue to build on the momentum gained from Tuesday's victory into the weekend.
Â
The Lions and Ragin Cajuns will be facing off for the first time in their school's history when they meet on Friday evening with first pitch slated for 4:30 p.m. PT, followed by Saturday's noon start and culminating with an 11:00 a.m. start to wrap up the three-game set on Sunday.
