Lions hit the road for WCC series against Portland

The Loyola Marymount Lions (15-9, 5-1 WCC) return to West Coast Conference play when they travel to Portland and take on the Pilots for a three-game weekend series.

LMU is coming off a 7-2 homestand that included a three-game sweep of WCC foe Santa Clara and taking two out of three against the Pacific Tigers. The Lions are looking to build on that momentum when they venture up north against Portland.

Leading the way for the Lions against WCC competition is sophomore Alex Lambeau who's robust batting average of .345 leads the team. The sophomore has hit near or above .300 in four of the teams six WCC games. Not only is he leading the team in average against WCC opponents but he's setting the pace in hits and stolen base attempts as well.

As a team LMU is hitting .254 and leads the WCC in triples with five, stolen bases with 36 and four Lions regulars are hitting .300 or better. The pitching staff has been stingy with opponents as well, holding them to a batting average of .230.

Junior Trevin Esquerra enters the weekend series leading the team in average and ranking eighth in the nation in doubles with 12. He also tops the WCC in RBIs with 29 and is second in home runs with seven.

The Lions return to Joe Etzel Field winners of five of their last six games while wearing the road greys. Most recently they swept the Pilots as the road team during the 2017 season and head coach Jason Gill is looking for that same type of success this year.

The series begins on Friday, March 29thwith first pitch slated for 6:00 p.m., followed by a 6:00 p.m. contest on Saturday March 30thand culminating with the finale at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 31st
