LOS ANGELES, Calif. - For the final time this regular season, the Loyola Marymount men's basketball team (18-10, 6-8 WCC) hosts a game at Gersten Pavilion. This Thursday's 8 p.m. matchup against Santa Clara (15-13, 7-7 WCC) may not only be the last time that the fans see LMU's three seniors lace it up in Hank's House, but will certainly have major implications in the conference race entering the final week of the season.
The Lions and Broncos are separated by just a game in the West Coast Conference standings entering the week, with both teams winning their only game last week. In the first meeting, LMU erased a nine-point halftime deficit to top the Broncos, 69-61, at Leavey Center.
In that game, The Lions limited Santa Clara to under 27 percent (7-for-26) shooting after intermission and 23 total points in the second half. Despite a season-low three bench points for LMU, the Lions utilized their conference-leading defense to change the fortunes over the final 20 minutes. The Lions lead the WCC and rank 14th in the nation in points allowed at 62.3 ppg, and limited Santa Clara to 61 on Jan. 26.
Thursday's game will air on Spectrum Sportsnet, and will be available on TheW.tv outside of the television region. Prior to the game, LMU's three seniors will be recognized for their contributions to the program.
James Batemon eclipsed the 1,000 point milestone in Saturday's win at Pacific and currently ranks seventh in both scoring and assists in the WCC.
Petr Herman ranks 22nd in program history with 50 career blocks, and his seven blocked shots at Pacific in 2017 still stands as the single game most in program history.
Jeffery McClendon led the WCC in steals as a junior with 65 last season, and has totaled 135 steals in his career, which ranks 14th all-time in program history.
