LMU will open the home portion of the schedule tonight when it welcomes the Saint Louis Billikens to Page Stadium for the first time in school history. The Lions and Billikens will play a three-game set over the weekend with first pitch on Friday night set for 6:00 p.m.
Â
The Lions (2-2) start matches their 2017 season's first four game output where they ended that campaign with a 38-18 record and appeared in the WCC Championships.
Â
Contributing to LMU's early season success is redshirt sophomore
Giuseppe Benedetti, who's solid outing against UC Riverside was the shot in the arm LMU was looking for after dropping a 5-0 decision to UCLA earlier in the week. Benedetti's strong 3.0 innings pitched with two strike outs and scattering of two hits was exactly what LMU needed to get back in the win column.
Â
Senior
Brandon Shearer has been on a tear for the Lions, coming out of the gate hot and leading the team in batting average (.538), hits (7), total bases (8) and slugging percentage (.615). Shearer's sizzling bat has him ranked 51
st in the nation in batting average and 25
th in on base percentage.
Â
Redshirt junior
Steven Chavez has also been a box score filler for LMU. He's in the top five in batting average, hits, RBI's, total bases and total plate appearances for the Lions.
Â
The Lions series against the Billikens continues Saturday night with first pitch slated for 6:00 p.m., followed by the final game of the three-game set scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Sunday.Â
