PCSC Championships Results Day 3
Â
Senior
Isabel Willis became Loyola Marymount's first conference champion in five years, when she won the 200-yard freestyle on the third night of the Pacific Collegiate Swimming & Diving Championships at the La Mirada "Splash" Aquatics Center.
Â
Willis was seeded sixth going into the competition but established her claim on the top position by posting the fastest preliminary time in the morning heats. In the evening's championship final, Willis led from start to finish establishing a body length lead over the field at the half-way mark before holding off a last lap surge by Concordia University's Madeleine Dodge, who finished .1 behind Willis' time of 1:52.93. "This was an incredible swim by Izzy," said Head Coach
Bonnie Adair. The win by Willis was ranked as one of the top three "gutty" swims Adair has witnessed in her 15 years as head coach at LMU.Â
Â
"Willis went for it from the start and her split at 100 yards was within tenths of her best 100 sprint time. I knew the back half was going to be tough, but she wanted this badly and fought off the late surge by the Concordia swimmer to get to the wall first. I am so proud of her. She worked hard all year for this and got the payoff. I can't wait to see what she does in the 100 Freestyle on Saturday," said Head Coach Adair.
Â
Earlier in Thursday's competition, Willis qualified for another Championship Final (top 8), placing eighth in the 50-yard freestyle with a personal best time of 24.21. Fellow senior,
Marley Abbott finished fifth in the race also with a personal best time of 24.09.  Willis and Abbott would later combine with senior
Abby Chopp and sophomore
Serena Myatt to race in the 200-yard freestyle relay placing fifth.
Â
Chopp and junior
Lanna Kozlowski also achieved top eight finishes, with Chopp taking third in the 100-yard backstroke with a 57.45 time and Kozlowski fourth in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:27.47 moving her into the fourth fastest in LMU program history.Â
