LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount women's basketball team was picked to finish sixth in the West Coast Conference, while
Chelsey Gipson was named to the 2019-20 All-WCC Preseason Team, announced by the WCC on Wednesday.
The preseason poll and All-WCC team were selected by the conference's head coaches. The Lions tied for sixth place with rival Pepperdine with 39 votes. The Lions land the sixth place spot out of 10 conference teams after going 18-15 overall and 10-8 in conference play.
LMU went to the second round of the WCC Tournament, earning a bid to the WNIT, where the team took on Idaho State.
Junior
Chelsey Gipson was one of 10 players to be named to the All-WCC Preseason Team. Gipson was the only Lion named, while players from BYU, Santa Clara, Pacific, Sant Mary's and Gonzaga.
Gipson led the Lions in points with 434, while also putting up 62 three-pointers and was second on the team in assists with 83. The Junior scored her season high in points against Pepperdine, tallying 29.
The Lions will head into the 2019-20 season having lost five seniors, but boasting six new freshmen, three of which are international.
The Lions will kick off their season on the road against UCLA on Saturday November 9 in Los Angeles. The Lions' home opener will be on Wednesday November 13 against Hawaii.
