Senior Class Award Selects Tyrnauer as Candidate

Senior CLASS Release and Candidates List

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (September 19, 2018) – Sixty NCAA® men's and women's soccer student-athletes who excel both on and off the field were selected as candidates today for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate soccer. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of candidates follows this release.

Loyola Marymount's Emma Tyrnauer has been selected as one of the 30 women's soccer candidates who excels both on and off the field.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Classroom:
Tyrnauer is the definition of a student-athlete, boasting a 3.88 GPA as a biology major. As a performer both on the field and in the classroom, Tyrnauer is a WCC First Team All-Conference athlete as well as a WCC First Team All-Academic performer.

Character:
Tyrnauer's lead-by-example approach is highlighted each and every day she is around her teammates. Always somebody who takes care of her business, Tyrnauer is an example to her teammates on what it takes to be a student-athlete. Her caring, soft-spoken approach to communicating with teammates allows her to both hold the respect of her teammates, while also getting the best out of them.

Community:
Tyrnauer has led the way in team events like Feed the Hungry and Soccer for Hope. In addition, Tyrnauer's summers were spent volunteering at her neighborhood veterinary clinic and is currently in the process of applying to veterinary school.

Competition:
Tyrnauer has made her impact on the field for the Lions and is a focus for all West Coast Conference opponents. A First Team All-WCC selection a year ago and a WCC All-Freshman Team honoree, Tyrnauer has started all 68 games (as of Sept. 19, 2018) that she has played in and is the active leader in minutes played and ranks in the top-10 in program history.

Each of the 60 candidates has displayed a strong work ethic in the classroom and on the pitch with 34 returning after earning first-team conference honors, 30 having grade-point averages of 3.5 or higher, nine being on the MAC Hermann Watch List for 2018 and seven returning All-Americans. Outside of academics and athletics, all candidates also have been consistently involved in community service on their campus or in their communities.

Each of the two candidate classes will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.

The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2018 NCAA Men's and Women's College Cup® championships in December.
