LOS ANGELES – The LMU men's soccer team (1-1) is off to the Midwest for two weekend matches. The Lions will first play at Loyola-Chicago (1-1) on Friday, Aug. 31, squaring off against the Ramblers at 5 p.m. PT. LMU will then take on DePaul (1-1) on Sunday, Sept. 2, at 12 p.m. PT.
The Lions kicked off their season at home this past weekend, earning an opening-night 3-2 victory over UC Riverside on Friday and falling to St. John's 4-1 on Sunday. Sophomore
Francis Avoce scored two goals over the weekend, with one in each contest. He netted the Lions' first goal of the season on a header off a cross from teammate
Antonio Porreco who received a quick pass from
James Tanaka. Avoce scored his second goal of the season by finishing a penalty kick against the Red Storm on Sunday. Porreco and
Will Dubay have also scored so far for the Lions, with both goals coming against the Highlanders. Porreco secured a penalty-kick goal and Dubay scored from the top of the box on a double assist from
Enrique Bustamante and
Kris Fourcand.
Loyola-Chicago and DePaul are also 1-1 so far on the season. The Ramblers lost their first game of the season vs. Western Michigan, 0-2, and defeated Cleveland State 1-0 on Monday. The Blue Demons lost to Kentucky 0-1 in their first game of the season and took down Western Michigan 1-0 to pick up their first win on Monday.
Following this Midwest swing, LMU will return to California and play at UC Irvine on Friday, Sept. 7 before returning to Sullivan Field for a Sunday, Sept. 9 match vs. Long Island at 4 p.m.
