The 2018-19 LMU athletics season is officially underway, as LMU women's soccer kicked off fall action last week with a pair of matches played in Hawaii at the Outrigger Soccer Kickoff.
The Lions managed a
1-1 draw with Bowling Green on Friday, as
Sarina Bolden headed in the first goal of the season off a pass from sophomore transfer
Dana Reed at exactly the five-minute mark. Her 13th career goal pushed Bolden into the program record books, moving her into a tie for 10th all time. Women's soccer finished tournament play on Sunday,
suffering a 3-0 setback at the hands of #11 Texas A&M.
Fellow fall sports women's volleyball and men's soccer also opened the 2018 campaigns with exhibition scrimmages last week.
LMU volleyball welcomed San Diego State to Gersten Pavilion on Friday morning, and the two teams played five regulation sets to 25. The Lions took sets one, two and four, eventually settling on match scores of 25-12, 25-17, 28-30, 25-23, 22-25.

LMU men's soccer hosted Cal Baptist in an exhibition match on Saturday night, with the Lions scoring a pair of second-half goals to record a 2-1 victory. Daniel Garcia provided the equalizer on a corner kick in the 70
th minute before
Francis Avoce put LMU on top with a shot past the Lancer keeper in the 81
st minute.

Prior to the Friday exhibition, volleyball received word from the West Coast Conference that the
Preseason Coaches' Poll has LMU tabbed to finish third in the competitive WCC. The third-place selection is the best for LMU since earning a share of second in the 2004 preseason poll. In conjunction with the preseason poll, the coaches also voted on the preseason All-WCC squad, as LMU earned a pair of selections in juniors
Megan Rice and
Savannah Slattery. The 2018 LMU volleyball season is officially set to begin on August 24, and in preparation, LMU Athletics announced the upcoming
promotions schedule. Some of the highlights of this year's promotions schedule include a fanny pack giveaway on Saturday, October 6, collector's cup giveaway on Saturday, November 17 and crimson volleyball shirt giveaway on Tuesday, November 20. LMU first home match is scheduled for September 15 at Noon against Lamar.
LMU men's basketball will return from a foreign tour to Australia on Tuesday after finishing the three-game set with a 2-1 record, including posting come-from-behind wins over the
Aspiring Stars All-Stars and
Dandenong Rangers. The Lions closed the tour against the reigning national champions of the NBL, Melbourne United,
falling by a score of 100-80 in front of a sold-out crowd.
LMU Athletics has announced the date for the annual LMU Women in Athletics event.
