2018 LMU Volleyball Schedule
With the season set to begin on August 24 at the Temple Invitational, LMU volleyball added one more piece to its roster with the addition of transfer setter
Bailey Steger from Holy Cross University.
"Bailey was a last-minute addition to our roster and everything seemed to fall in place for both her and our program as we went through the recruiting process," second-year head coach
Aaron Mansfield said. "She was very specific with what experience she was looking for after transferring from Holy Cross, and we are happy that LMU fit her vision. Bailey understands the quality of education that LMU provides and will positively contribute to the things that we value here as a volleyball program."
Steger spent her freshman year at Holy Cross where she appeared in 24 of the Crusaders' 29 matches. The native of Half Moon Bay, Calif. dished out 158 assists while serving up 11 aces and compiling 75 digs.
Prior to playing at Holy Cross, Steger was a three-year member of the Half Moon Bay High School volleyball team under head coach Ryan Havice. A team captain throughout her prep career, she guided her squad to an unblemished 31-0 mark as a freshman. Steger was named team MVP and CCS NorCal Honorable Mention in 2016 after leading her team to a CCS semifinal finish. The 2016 season, in which she set single-season records for aces (122) and assists (1,332), also culminated in her third straight All-League selection.
On the club circuit, Steger played with Redrock Volleyball (2013), Beach Vibes Volleyball (2014-15) and City Beach Volleyball (2016-17), helping each club to appearances at Junior Nationals.
LMU volleyball is set to welcome alumni of the program back to campus on August 11 for this year's Alumni Day. The day will provide an opportunity for former players to practice with the current team before a social gathering featuring dinner.
Former Lions interested in practicing with the team and/or attending the dinner should contact assistant coach Natalie Morgan at Natalie.Morgan@lmu.edu.
The collective practice is scheduled to begin at Noon, while dinner and the social gathering are tentatively set for the Bird Nest on campus immediately following practice.
LMU volleyball is preparing to open the 2018 season against Rhode Island at 8 a.m. PT on August 24 as part of the Temple Invitational hosted by Temple. LMU first home match is scheduled for September 15 at Noon against Lamar.
While we would love to have all fans and alumni in attendance for Alumni Day, if you cannot attend, you can still support the Lion volleyball program by making a donation of ANY SIZE to the LionsFund for Volleyball. Just make sure to click the "View All Giving Opportunities" button and select "LionsFund for Women's Volleyball" as the recipient. Your donation is greatly appreciated, and helps meet our volleyball team's goals.
