May 7, 2018 Second-year head coach Aaron Mansfield and his staff have added to LMU's 2018 recruiting class, announcing that Emilee Rohrer (Claremont HS) and Ella Boehle (Notre Dame Academy) will suit up for the Lions this fall. LMU had previously announced that Summit HS middle blocker Ella Knowlton would play for the Lions in 2018.
Rohrer was a standout player for Claremont High School and Forza1 Volleyball club. The 2014 Daily Bulletin's Newcomer of the Year, Rohrer helped her 2016 squad to a 23-9 showing that included a share of the school's first league title in 19 years. The team advanced to the CIF Southern Section Division 4 semifinals before falling to Sierra Canyon and made it to the Southern California Regional final in the state portion of the playoffs for Division II. One of the top prospects in the sport after being named to the 2015 USA Volleyball A1 Select Team, Rohrer has battled a series of injuries throughout high school, but has shown extreme potential when she is on the court.
"Emilee has shown great resiliency in coming back from her ACL injury she endured last July," Mansfield remarked. "She has been dedicated to her physical therapy and is refining her game along the way until she is fully cleared to play. Emilee has a really nice skill set to score points and will add some nice size to our front row. We look forward to getting to work with Emilee and acclimating her to our systems and culture."
Boehle, the granddaughter of former Lion basketball player Wayne Boehle, prepped at Notre Dame Academy while playing for Sunshine Volleyball Club. A 2016 All-CIF Southern Section pick at outside hitter, Boehle also took home All-Tournament honors at the 2015 Royal Classic, and garnered a pair of Player of the Match tags as a prep star.
"Ella has grown up around the game, and comes from a long line of volleyball lineage," Mansfield said. "She is proficient at all the skills, but her ability to control the ball and read the game, really stuck out to us. After learning more about Ella and what she was looking for in a college experience, it was evident that LMU would be a great fit for her and our program. We are very excited to add Ella to our program."
Knowlton, who in addition to playing for Summit HS in Bend, Ore., also competed for Rimrock Volleyball Club. Knowlton was named second team All-State in 2016 and guided her squad to a fourth-place finish in the State tournament that year. A blocking standout, she also led her team to the Oregon 5A State Final match in 2017 while playing as the top seed in the tournament.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Ella to our Lion family," Mansfield said of Knowlton's commitment to LMU. "Ella's best volleyball is ahead of her. She is passionate about learning and has the willingness to put in the necessary work to reach her potential. After spending time with Ella and getting to know her parents, it was apparent to us that she would be a great addition to our team. We can't wait to get her on campus this summer."
