LOS ANGELES â€" The Loyola Marymount softball team (17-20-1) opens West Coast Conference play at home against Pacific (10-21) this weekend, facing off against the Tigers in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 7, with games at 12 and 2:30 p.m. and one more on Sunday, April 8, at 12 p.m.
The Lions hold an 11-10 record at Smith Field this season, while the Tigers are 2-4 in road games and 6-12 in neutral-site contests in 2018. Pacific has lost six straight games entering this weekend's series.
In the 2018 WCC Preseason Poll, the Lions and Tigers were slotted for a second-place finish in a tie. On the season, the Tigers lead the conference with the best batting average (.271). The Lions have hit 25 home runs on the season, which is the second-highest home run total in the WCC, behind BYU.
LMU's pitchers are also standing out among conference teams, as the Lions lead the WCC in batters struck out with 189 so far in 2018.
