Trevin Esquerra launched his fifth homer of the year, and LMU used six pitchers to piece together nine innings of one-run baseball, as the Lions (19-22) turned in an efficient 4-1 victory over CSU Bakersfield (15-24) on Tuesday night from LMU's Page Stadium.
ESQUERRA TAKES HOME RUN LEAD: Trevin Esquerra belted his team-best fifth home run of the year in the fourth inning to put LMU on the board first. The round-tripper, a two-run shot, plated Nick Sogard who had singled earlier in the inning.
LIONS ADD A PAIR IN LATE INNINGS: Leading 2-1 headed into the seventh, the Lions tacked on single runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Jamey Smart doubled in the seventh before coming in on a two-out RBI-single from Niko Pacheco. The Lions would then take advantage of an error charged to Jake Ortega behind the plate en route to scoring their fourth run of the night in the eighth inning, as Ortega threw a ball down the right field line while trying to put out Sogard on a sacrifice bunt.
ROBINS EARNS WIN, FERNANDEZEES CONVERTS SAVE: Freshman Josh Robins was credited with the win after tossing 2.0 innings of relief. Robins surrendered one run on two hits in the fifth inning, but moved to 2-1 with the win. Freshman CJ Fernandezees entered in the ninth with the Lions leading 4-1, and converted his first career save with a scoreless frame.

ON DECK: LMU returns to action on Friday when it travels to Gonzaga to open a three-game West Coast Conference series with the Bulldogs.
