Fullerton, Calif. – The Lions sent a limited squad to the Titan Invitational on Friday night. The women finished sixth with 190 points, while the men finished fifth with 141 points.
Freshman Danielle Rowlinson led the Lions with the 25th place finish and a time of 18:59.8 for the 5K distance. As the top finisher for the Lions, Rowlinson earns a spot to compete at the WCC Championships next weekend in Provo, UT. Other finishers for the Lions include sophomore
Holly LaPlante (19:28.8), senior
Elena Garcia (19:58.9), freshman
Emily Sandberg (20:09.9), and
Gaby Guerrero (20:13.8).
The men were led by senior
Alex Sasser who, as the top finisher, earned a spot on the WCC team next weekend. Sasser was 19th with a time of 25:42.0 for 8K. Sophomore Kyle Freidler was next to finish with a time of 26:02.7 in 29th. Freshman
Max Smith had the best performance of his short career running a personal best of 26:33.4. Other finishers included junior
Marcus Avila (26:43.7), senior
Ben Davis (27:06.4), senior
Joey Rodgers (27:26.4), and freshman
Max Himmelright (27:59.5).
For the second year in a row, alums of the LMU Cross Country and Track & Field program also participated in the race. The alums were led by Weston Strum (Class of 2014) who was second overall with a time of 24:30.5. Strum was near 90 seconds faster than he ran last year. John Pickhaver (Class of 2014) was next in for the alums in 12th place in a time of 25:20.7. Other alumni participants included Grant Lapovich (Class of 2017), Andy Lopez (Class of 2015),
Dan Smith (Class of 2014) and Brandon Vientos (Class of 2016).
The Lions begin their postseason run at the WCC Championships on October 27 in Provo, UT. The women race at 10 a.m. and the men at 11 a.m.
