Box Score April 10, 2017

Box Score

Playing its fourth game in as many days, LMU (21-12) also played it's longest game of the season, eventually dropping an 8-7 decision in 10 innings to #30 Washington (19-12) in a time of 4:29.

Sophomore Niko Decolati was charged with the loss after entering in the top of the 10th and allowing a run on no hits. Decolati, who fell to 0-2 with the loss, walked a trio of hitters to load the bases with one out before Jack Meggs hit a ground ball to second and beat the double-play turn, allowing Kyle London to score from third.

Leo Nierenberg was credited with the victory after allowing just one hit and three walks with six strikeouts over 3.0 innings. Nierenberg improved to 1-1 with the win. Harrison Goonewardene earned his first save of the year by recording the final two outs in the 10th, but he got a scare off the bat of Cooper Uhl when the freshman catcher drove a ball to deep left centerfield with two aboard where it was knocked down by the late-night marine layer.

LMU spotted Washington four runs in the top of the first, as the Lions committed two of their four team errors in the opening frame, leading to three unearned runs charged to starter Giuseppe Bendetti.

The Lions, who used six pitchers on Monday night, got two runs back in the third, highlighted by an RBI-double from Spencer Erdman, before taking a lead in the fourth by way of four runs. Erdman once again came up huge in that inning, lacing a three-RBI triple to centerfield to cap the four-run frame and leave LMU with a 6-4 lead after four complete.

Erdman finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs scored, two doubles, a triple and four RBI. Junior Jamey Smart also had three hits, going 3-for-5 with a double.

Washington drew back even with two in the fifth on a two-run homer from MJ Hubbs before both teams traded a run in the seventh to eventually force extras knotted at 7-7.

Hubbs finished the game 2-for-5 with the homer, a double, three runs scored and three RBI.

Harrison Simon tossed scoreless eighth and ninth innings for LMU, but the Lion offense struggled to get to Nierenberg, extending the game long enough for Washington to mount the 10th-inning rally.

LMU will return to West Coast Conference play on Thursday, opening a three-game series with Saint Mary's at 3 p.m.
