LOS ANGELES - The 22nd-ranked LMU women's water polo team will be back in action on Friday, March 3 when they travel to California Lutheran. The match-up is a rescheduled game from the rained out game from Feb. 17. Game time is 4 pm.
The Lions are coming off four games at the loaded Barbara Kalbus Invitational hosted by UC Irvine. It featured 16 teams all ranked in the top-25. The Lions enter the game against the Regals at 4-10 overall while CLU is 4-4.
Leading the Lions this season is senior Caitlin Schafer who has 25 goals and eight assists for 33 total points. She has also added a team-high 20 steals, four field blocks and 15 drawn ejections. She is tied for second within the Golden Coast Conference goals and sixth in total points. She is also second in steals.
Sophomore Hana Vilanova is second on the team in goals with 19 and fellow sophomore Katie Hungerford leads the team in assists with 13. Hungerford is also second on the team in teams with 19 and has 17 points on the season. Hungerford is ranked third in the GCC in steals and seventh in assists.
Following the game against Cal Lutheran, the Lions finally return home to host the 16th Annual LMU Invitational. The 12-game tournament features six games on Friday, March 17 and six more on Saturday, March 18. Proceeds for the tournament go to the Women's Water Polo Lions' Athletics Fund.
