March 11, 2017 Senior Danielle Shanahan and Junior Jack Polerecky won their respective 5k races Friday at the Oxy Distance Carnival Classic. Shanahan ran her 5,000m first-place finish in 16:25.28. Polerecky won his 5k with a new PR, 14:21.26, more than 8.5 seconds off his previous time.
Three women placed in the top 20 of the 1,500m race. Emily Hubert came in 16th with a time of 4:45.70, .08 above her PR. Lorena Garcia ran a PR setting race, finishing 18th with a new PR at 4:46.76. Rounding out the 1,500 was Marisa Carino placing 20th at 4:48.48.
In the women's 5,000m, Danielle Shanahan placed first overall with her time of 16:25.28. Kyla Danforth set her new PR at 17:38.16, more than 12 seconds off her previous best.
Branden Estrada was the 9th place finisher in the 1,500m running in 3:56.60. The men's 1,500m saw one PR and two time just shy of personal bests. Christopher Fredlund finished his race in 3:58.89 less than a second off from is best. Matthew Stein shaved more than a second off his time, running 4:04.63, his new PR. Mat Holton was the final men's 1,500m runner to bump up next to a PR, he ran 4:20.31.
The men's 5000m was PR full, five runners earned a new best time. Jack Polerecky placed first with a PR of 14:21.26. Jordan McLennan shaved almost 10 seconds off his best to earn a new time of 14:49.27. Koby Pederson has a new PR of 15:01.28 almost 12 seconds faster than his best. Joey Rodgers 15:35.51 race sets his PR well under his previous time. Finally, Brian Joerger ran more than 11 seconds faster than his PR, setting a new time of 15:47.47.
