LOS ANGELES - Senior Caitlin Schafer of the LMU women's water polo team was named the Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week after leading the Lions to a pair of wins last week. The Lions now will get he ultimate test, traveling to top-ranked Stanford for loaded tournament.
Schafer exploded on offensive for the Lions (2-0), leading them with 10 goals in the two games, including a career-high seven goals against Whittier (0-1). The seven goals in one game is the second most in LMU history, tying four others who tallied that many in a single game. Nicole Hughes holds the record of eight goals in a game, doing it twice.
The Lions now turn their attention to four games against the nation's top-20. It begins with host and the top-ranked Cardinal on Saturday at 8:30 am. Play continues at the Stanford Invitational for the Lions when they face sixth-ranked UC Irvine at 4:30 pm. On Sunday they will open with eighth-ranked Hawaii at 8:30 am and then play one final game against either seventh-ranked Michigan, fourth-ranked Cal, 16th-ranked San Jose State or 18th-ranked UC Davis.
