SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Seniors Stephanie Maciel and Sterling Shuster were among the 16 student-athletes honored as the West Coast Conference released its 2016 Softball All-Academic Team Thursday.
Maciel, the Lions' starting shortstop, earns a spot on the squad for the first time after accumulating a 3.21 grade point average and earning her degree in finance just last week. On the field, the Yorba Linda, Calif, native hits with a .318 average this season, including 11 doubles and five home runs.
Shuster, a redshirt senior and the Lions' starting second baseman, has a 3.92 cumulative GPA while pursuing her masters in business administration. This marks her second appearance on the WCC All-Academic Team after also achieving the honor at the conclusion of her junior season in 2014. Shuster hits .248 with 32 hits, including four doubles and one home run in her 48 games played.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC- sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.
