SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Junior outfielder Amanda Dirks has been named the West Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. The honors is the first of Dirks' career and the second for the LMU softball team this season.
Dirks claims the player of the week honor after batting .400 with three home runs, one double, four runs scored, eight RBI and a 1.400 slugging percentage in a three-game series against BYU. She went 4-for-10 in the three games, including 4-for-8 in LMU's two victories, which secured a series victory over the Cougars for the second straight year.
In LMU's 9-4 win Friday night, Dirks went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double and five RBI. She opened the game with a two-run homer in her first at bat, helping LMU build a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. She added an RBI-double in the third inning and a second two-run home run in the fifth as the Lions secured the victory.
In Saturday's rubber match, Dirks provided just one hit, but it was perhaps the biggest of all. With the Lions reclaiming a narrow 2-1 advantage in the top of the seventh, Dirks delivered a three-run homer, effectively sealing the 5-1 win and the series victory. The junior also made four putouts in left field. For the season, she now leads LMU with 11 home runs to go along with 10 doubles for a .707 slugging percentage.
