Lions Earn Highest Team Ranking in History

March 29, 2016

The LMU men's tennis team (7-6, 0-2 WCC) has entered the ITA National Rankings for just the third time in program history, earning a program-best #68 spot on the list. LMU was most recently ranked on April 14, 2015, owning the #75 spot in the poll. Prior to last year, LMU was last tabbed a Top-75 team on March 16, 2004, checking in at #75 that week.

LMU grabbed the national ranking following a pair of victories over Top-60 teams. LMU defeated then-No. 58 Utah State on March 21 before knocking off then-No. 51 UC Santa Barbara on March 25. The victory over the Gauchos was the first in program history.

LMU began the year 0-4, but quickly rattled off five straight victories to get back on track. The Lions' schedule is one of the tougher ledgers they have ever played, with all six losses coming at the hands of ranked opponents.

Sporting the new ranking, LMU will return to action on Friday when it travels to #72 Pacific for a WCC match at 1 p.m. The Lions will then play at Saint Mary's on Saturday at Noon.
