Pair of Home Matches Next for Lions

Feb. 4, 2016

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - With one match under its belt so far this spring, the LMU women's tennis team will host its first home matches of the year this weekend from the LMU Tennis Center. The Lions (0-1) will welcome Cal State Fullerton to campus on Saturday at 10 a.m. before squaring off against Sacramento State at Noon on Sunday.

The Lions dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker to CSUN on January 30 to open the 2016 season, but showed promise in singles play by way of three victories. LMU won on courts two, three and four, while junior Jessica Perez forced a tiebreaker in both sets before ultimately falling 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5) at the top of the order.

The Cal State Fullerton women's tennis team is off to its best start in over 20 years after producing a 6-1 victory over 14th-ranked (Div. II) Azusa Pacific on Wednesday afternoon at Titan Tennis Courts. With the win, the Titans are now 3-1 on the year, the best record for Fullerton after the first four matches of the season since 1995.

Opening both its home and Big Sky Conference schedules, Sacramento State swept doubles and won five of six singles matches in a 6-1 win over Portland State last Saturday. The Hornets (2-0, 1-0 Big Sky) won their 14th consecutive Big Sky title last year.

Following the weekend's events, LMU will return to action on February 13 when it travels to Long Beach State for a match at 11 a.m.
