Playing at the top spot in the singles lineup, junior Charles Boyce defeated #49 Daan Maasland in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, on Friday afternoon in a dual match between the Lions (0-3) and #42 Oregon (9-1) from the LMU Tennis Center. LMU would also win on court five in singles play, but ultimately dropped the match to the ranked-foe, 5-2.

The victory moved Boyce to 3-2 overall on the year, including 1-1 while competing at #1 singles for the Lions in dual matches. Fellow junior, Luke Bohuslav, was responsible for the second win for LMU, taking down Cormac Clissold, 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-7).

Despite dropping their matches, both Errol Smith and Joat Farah forced their opponents into three-set decisions, with Smith splitting a pair of tiebreakers in the first and second sets of a thrilling battle on court three. Smith and Farah also impressed in doubles play, taking down Simon Stevens/Daan Maasland, 6-3, on court two.

"We had a great look at a top program, and just didn't convert when we needed to," third-year head coach Tom Lloyd said of the performance on Friday. "In men's tennis, you can't give good tennis players room or quarter. This is the third match in a row where we had the momentum and the opportunity to finish our opponent, but we just didn't seize the moment. As a team, we learned a lot today, and we are headed in the direction of being a very tough program."

LMU will return to action on Sunday when it hosts Cal Poly at Noon from the LMU Tennis Center.
