SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Loyola Marymount doubles pairing of Alex Bourgeois and Ryan Brown finished second of eight in the UCSB Classic this weekend. The Lions pair went 2-1 as a doubles duo and each competed in the singles tournament as well.
Brown and Bourgeois opened the tournament with an 8-1 victory over the doubles pair of Lamales and Campana from Saint Mary's. The two continued their run by topping Cal Poly's Tan and Lenhard, 8-5, on Saturday to advance to the Flight B Doubles Final. In a closely contested final, the Lions were defeated on Sunday to Masciorini and Prior from the host UCSB, 8-5.
In the singles field, Brown fell to UCSB's Harris, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, but answered with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Bailey Gong of Fresno State. The final two matchups did not go in Brown's favor, losing to St. Mary's Campana (6-1, 7-6) and UC Davis' Jesse Ross (6-3, 6-3).
Bourgeois dropped his opening singles draw, 6-1, 6-4, to Santa Barbara's Hamilton, then fell to St. Mary's Lamales (6-1, 6-4), Cal's Barretto (7-6, 6-4), and Pacific's Ross Watson (6-3, 7-5) as the weekend advanced.
