WCC Play Opens With San Diego

LOS ANGELES - West Coast Conference action for the LMU men's soccer squad is set to begin this weekend as the Lions are set to host San Diego on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out
In its final non-conference contest of the season, New Mexico exploded in the opening 10 minutes of the second half, tabbing a trio of goals en route to its fifth shutout of the season, snapping LMU's three-game win streak on the road.

LMU has posted a 1-1-2 mark in its WCC openers, though the Lions have defender their home turf in their opening conference matchup, posting a perfect 4-0 mark the past four seasons.

Non-Conference Notes
With the bulk of its season under wraps, LMU will focus on its remaining seven WCC in search of its third WCC title.

The Lions finished their non-conference schedule with a 6-5 mark, finishing with a winning record in non-conference play for the third time in four seasons and have amassed a 21-16-5 mark during that span.

Making Marks
After snapping his second goal of the season against SJSU, Adrien Perez moved into a tie for fourth on the all-time career points list with 53. Perez is also moving up the points per game list with 0.96 ppg, good for third all-time.

Follow The Leader
Colin Partee has been impressive in net to start the season as he leads the conference in saves (50), saves per game (5.00), is tied for the lead in shutouts (4) and ranks second in save percentage (.833).

Among national ranks, Partee is tied for 11th in saves.

Snapping the Streak
The Lions win over then-No. 17 UCSB on Sept. 21 marked the first time since 2010 LMU has downed a ranked opponent, breaking a nine-game losing streak. The Lions previous victory over a ranked foe came in a 3-2 decision over then-No. 25 Portland Oct. 10, 2010.

Keep it Coming
LMU matched its highest scoring output against a ranked oppoent with four scores against UCSB, matching its highest scoring total when the Lions blanked then-No. 2 Santa Clara, 4-0, Nov. 12, 2004.

Freshman Force
Sahid Conteh has been making the most of his minutes as he added his second score of the season at UCSB.

Conteh's scores mark the first time a freshman has netted more than one goal in a season since Alvaro Madrigal and Grant Sampson each tallied a pair in their freshmen campaigns in 2014.

Across The Board
LMU has seen a balanced attack this season as 10 of its 13 goals have come from different Lions.

Road Warriors
The Lions have proven up to the test on the road the past four seasons, amassing a 17-11-7 mark during that span.

Instant Impact
LMU's match against UC Davis on Sept. 11 marked the first time two freshmen tabbed scores since Sept. 20, 2013, when Mark Dotseth and Adrien Perez each snapped a goal in a 4-0 shutout of Sacramento State.

Scouting San Diego
The 2014 WCC champions enter conference play with a 3-4-3 record and dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 1 Maryland on Monday in its last time on the pitch. Three of San Diego's four losses have come against ranked foes.

Michael Turner and Miguel Berry lead the Toreros charge with four goals apiece, while Thomas Olsen has been the primary netminder, posting a 1.58 goals against average.

Turner was named the September San Diego Hall of Champions Star of the Month after netting three goals while assisting on two others.

The Series
San Diego snapped LMU's three-game win streak against the Toreros last season, claiming a 3-1 triumph to put the all-time series in their favor at 29-14-4. The Southern California foes can expect a neck-and-neck match as eight of the previous 11 decisions have been decided by one goal..

Up Next
LMU will host a pair of contests next weekend before embarking on a three-game road trip. The Lions will start with a 7 p.m. matchup against Pacific on Oct. 14 and close out the weekend against Saint Mary's on Oct. 16.
