SAN DIEGO, Calif. â€" Women's tennis traveled to San Diego State's Fall Classic I this weekend in a five-school bracket-style single and doubles tournament. The event was played over a three-day span beginning Friday and ending Sunday with SDSU, LMU, University of San Diego, , Grand Canyon University, and Cal State Northridge participating.
Day 1 Results
Jessica Perez opened the SDSU Fall Tennis Classic I with a commanding 6-0, 6-2 singles victory over Cal State Northridge's Mickey Hsu. Also opening the tournament in the 10 a.m. time slot, Anna Romeka fell to Jana Buth of the Aztecs 6-3, 6-1. Both Perez and Romeka competed in the Black division of the singles tournament.
The Gold singles bracket featured both Camila Tumosa and Siobhan Anderson. Tumosa came from behind to win her first matchup for the Lions, topping San Diego State's Mia Smith, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. In a tight one, Anderson fell to CSUN's Skyla Alcon, 7-5, 7-5.
On the doubles court, Romeka and Tumosa lost their red bracket opener, 6-3 to the University of San Diego pair of Anderson and Torres. In the black doubles field, Perez and Anderson dropped their opener, 6-2, to Grand Canyon's pairing of Prudhomme and Baklini.
Day 2 Results
Perez continued her dominance on the court, taking care of USD's Colomba DiFilippo, 6-3, 6-2. Romeka recovered from her opening day loss to come-from-behind to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
In the gold bracket, Tumosa was upended, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, by Gemma Garcia of USD. In the bottom half of the bracket, Anderson fought till the end, but was topped late 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (0) to GCU's Sasha Petrzalkova.
Romeka and Tumosa lost to the SDSU pairing of Acero and Larson 6-4 in the red doubles field, while Perez and Anderson's 6-3 fell to the CSUN combination of Hsu and Poei.
Day 3 Results
Perez looked impressive again on Sunday as she earned a Court 1 victory over SDSU's Buth, 6-2, 6-3. For the second day in a row, Anna Romeka won her singles match, topping Grand Canyon's Tatum Prudhomme 6-2, 7-5.
On the doubles courts, LMU rolled to a pair of dominant victories. Romeka and Tumosa blanked USD's Garcia and Regehr, 6-0, on court three and the pair of Anderson and Torres bested Bagumyan and Judan of CSUN, 6-1, on court five.
